Guidelines for the review

Guidelines for the external peer review of articles in the journal Tierra Nuestra

The external evaluation of scientific articles in the journal Tierra Nuestra is carried out by external double-blind peers. The experts do not belong to the Editorial Board; therefore, the review must be confidential, the article to be evaluated should not be disclosed to third parties. To help us protect your identity, you should not reveal your name in the text of the review. You should not attempt to contact the author. When submitting your review, please note that your recommendations will contribute to the final decision made by the editor.

You are expected to evaluate the article according to the following items:

 

Originality

Is the article novel and interesting for publication? Does it add information to the field of knowledge? Does the article conform to the standards established by the journal? Is the research question appropriate? If the research has been published previously, communicate it to the editor.

 

Structure

Title: Does it clearly describe the article and is it concise, clear and specific?

Abstract: Does it reflect the content of the article?

Introduction: Does it present a brief context or background to the study? Does it summarize relevant research to provide context and explain the finding of other authors? Does it clearly explain the aims, objectives, and hypotheses of the study (if applicable)?

Method: Does the author explain how the data were collected? Is the design used adequate to answer the question posed? Is there sufficient information to replicate the research? Does the article detail the procedures followed? If the methods are new, are they explained in detail? Is the sampling appropriate? Are the equipment and materials adequately described? Does the article make clear what type of data were recorded and has the author been precise in the description of measurements?

Results: Are they clearly stated and in a logical sequence?

Do they present the data in the text without duplication in the tables or figures? Are the tables and figures understandable and do they respect the requirements requested in the journal's Guidelines for Authors?

Discussion: Is what is announced in the discussion supported by the results? Do the authors point out the relationship of their results with respect to the expected and previous studies? Does the article confirm or contradict previous theories?

Conclusion: Does it explain how the study contributes to the advancement of the field of scientific knowledge? Does it relate to objectives?

Bibliographic references: Do they support the results of the study, are they relevant, updated and exhaustive, and do they respect the style requested in the Guidelines for Authors?

Language: If an article is poorly written, it should be communicated to the editor.

 

Ethical issues

Plagiarism: If you are certain that an article or part of it is a copy of another, inform the editor, citing the previous work as far as possible.

Fraud: If you suspect that the results of the article are false, inform the editor.

 

Conflict of interest

It is important to maintain impartiality in relation to the nationality, political or religious beliefs, gender, or other characteristics of authors, such as origin of the manuscript or commercial considerations. If you discover an interest that prevents you from conducting a fair and impartial review, please notify the journal. While awaiting a response, avoid looking at the manuscript and/or associated material in case the review request is revoked. Also, notify the journal as soon as possible if you feel you do not have the expertise to evaluate the manuscript, so as not to delay the review process.
